We want to see the entire piece in one photo and then the close-up of areas that require our special attention. We do ask that you take the time to reduce the size of your photo as it makes it much easier to view and get a proper idea of what needs to be done.

For additional information on reducing photo size, please take a look at this website: http://www.knowledgehound.com/khhow2s/resize_photos.htm

Furniture left unprotected and exposed to normal environmental conditions will ultimately deteriorate. Be assured glue dries out, joints separate and become weak, veneers will start to lift, warp and peel, boards will crack, split and warp, even worms and termites may attack the wood. We as a society started putting finishes on furniture 200 to 300 years ago to prevent it from deteriorating and falling apart. Because of the finishes we have put on, the furniture has survived and is now classified as antiques. Today there seems to be this attitude to not touch that finish or you’ll ruin the value of the piece. Granted, there are very old and historically significant pieces of furniture that should not be restored or refinished. Most of the antiques you encounter possibly even 99.9% of all the antiques do not fall into this category. Leaving a bad finish on the everyday antiques will speed up the demise and may lower the value. If you purchase the piece of furniture to use and it needs to be refinished, do the refinish and fully enjoy your antique. I assure you that you will get many more years of enjoyment with a refinished piece of furniture than one that is falling to pieces.
For most people the market value should not be the driving issue. If you are asking the question, - do I leave it alone or refinish. Most people want to enjoy and use their antique furniture. There is even value in simply treasuring and enjoying the furniture. Some of these pieces become family heirlooms that are passed on to family members to enjoy as well. Family memories can be made from some of these antiques. If you have one and it is need of repair, do the repairs, the refinish and make the antique something to cherish and enjoy.![]()

You may email photos so we can attempt to assess the situation more accurately to info@millerrestorations.com or millerrestorations@gmail.com
